What goes in must come out, but should we do both at the same time? Eating while sitting on the toilet is an interesting behavior to ponder. Is it bad? Is it unhygienic? Is it devious?
Let’s not lie to ourselves; we’ve all done it.
Maybe it was just an apple and we were in a hurry, or maybe it was a slice of pizza and we were starving after a long day at work. I’d guess that most people don’t even think about what’s happening when you eat on the toilet.
Years ago I had an epiphany when I realized what I was doing. Food was entering my body and exiting at the same time…mind blown!
Then things got weird. I began analyzing if it was acceptable and whether I should feel guilty, gross, or both.
In this article, we’ll do a deep dive into the art of eating and pooping at the same time. We’ll discuss the common foods and drinks we ingest while on the toilet and create an easy-to-follow list of why you should and shouldn’t eat on the pot.
Hopefully, we can get to the bottom of this rarely discussed phenomenon.
Eating And Pooping At The Same Time: What It Means
We shouldn’t have to explain it. If you arrived on this page you already know what you’re doing and you’re wondering if other people do it too. Yeah, you’re gross!
Guess what, a lot of people eat while taking a number 2. It’s weird to think about, a little unconventional, fascinating, and rebellious at the same time.
The first thing to consider is that no one really plans to eat on the toilet, it just happens.
Scenario #1
The most common situation begins when you’re alone and eating a snack. You’re probably on the computer or watching television and the urge to defecate rears its ugly brown head.
Without thinking, you jump up off the couch with a crisp apple or a bag of Cheetos in hand. You hustle to the toilet and plop down on the porcelain throne. Whew, barely made it in time!
While doing your thang, you have a realization, “I’m eating food while food is exiting my body”. This is crazy, followed by a silent chuckle.
It usually happens by accident without even thinking about. It but rarely happens when standing and peeing – this is a sitting activity and if we’re eating something substantial, the toilet session may take a while.
Scenario #2
You’ve woken up late and lacking time. You rinse off, dress, and gather your things.
Of course, your last priority is finding something to eat so you grab some fruit or a granola bar on the way out.
But wait, you need to use the john one last time. You shuffle to the bathroom with said fruit and granola bar in hand. You squat to the pot.
Since you’ll be occupied for a minute or two, you look at the food and think “might as well eat it while I’m sitting here, kill 2 birds with one stone”. This scenario is all about time, or lack there of, not to mention poor management (you’d be a terrible coach).
Is it acceptable to eat on the throne when you’re in a hurry? We’ll let you be the judge.
Scenario #3
This situation is planned…You should be ashamed of yourself. Maybe it’s your internal glutton or maybe you just don’t give a sh*% (pun intended).
I suppose you might be one of those people who have a television in your bathroom too. If that’s the case I can understand your justification a little better.
Still, if you’re planning a meal on the toilet it’s absurd to think about. Have you no shame?
What People Usually Eat While Pooping
What types of food do people usually eat on the toilet? This is a common question. Most people wondering just want to confirm they are “normal” (if eating on the pot is actually normal).
75% of the time the toilet diet is usually snack-based. This list includes:
- Chips (specifically Cheetos)
- Fruit
- Chocolate
- Candy
- Trail mix
- Granola or other bars
The reason people prefer these foods on the pot is because they aren’t messy and most require only one hand. A bag of chips will require two hands (don’t forget to lick your fingers).
The other snacks require one hand and candy bars or granola bars are convenient because you never touch the food with your bare hand, only the packaging.
What People Usually Drink While Pooping
Drinking is just as common while on the toilet. And because you’re holding a cup it’s much more hygienic. Drinking a glass of water seems like an acceptable behavior on the toilet.
The most common drinks are:
- Water
- Coffee
- Soda
- Beer (very common among youngsters)
- Protein Shakes
- Milk Shakes
Once you get into milkshakes it’s tougher to differentiate whether the shake is a food or drink. Once these lines blur it becomes less acceptable (refer to foods).
Why You Should Not Eat While Sitting On The Toilet
There are plenty of reasons why you shouldn’t eat on the toilet. The main reason is the fact that your hand will be moving between your genitals and your mouth.
Anytime that happens you risk spreading bacteria. A clever individual might argue they finish their food before cleaning themselves but this doesn’t always work as planned.
Regardless of bacteria, the concept of eating and pooping at same time just doesn’t seem right.
Think of it this way.
You pull into a gas station and you always turn off your car. Per instructions and safety, your car should never be operating (burning fuel) while filling up.
On the toilet, you won’t have to deal with the explosive risks (or will you?) you’d find at a gas station, but the concept is the same. Focus on one activity and give your engine a break.
Whether or not you can do it isn’t the point. It’s more like “should you do it”. The answer is no.
Why You Should Eat While Sitting On The Toilet
This is a much tougher argument. The obvious answers were listed above in our scenarios.
- Lack of time
- Extreme hunger (think famine environment)
Lesser known or excepted reasons may be:
- Testing the norms of the world
- Feeling rebellious
- Avoiding children or a spouse (no one bothers you on the toilet)
- Sneaking food while on a diet (no one will ever know)
- Selfishly eating food you don’t want to share
These are somewhat reasonable justifications to eat on the toilet. I can understand going against the grain and not accepting the norm, but it’s hard to argue against basic hygiene principles.
Is It Unhygienic To Eat On The Toilet Or In The Bathroom
Damn right. It’s quite nasty. Even if you don’t touch yourself you still have the toilet seat, flusher, toilet paper roll, bathroom door nob to navigate – these things are coated with bacteria – more-so if you’re in a public restroom.
There are few people who can go into a bathroom hands-free and sit on a toilet without touching anything. If you can, cheers to you for never using toilet paper!
In regards to hygiene, never eat while on the toilet in a public restroom! It’s one thing to eat on the toilet at home but it’s taken to another level when in public. The chance for disease and/or sickness increases exponentially.
Conclusion
Eating on the toilet while pooping is something everyone has done but no want talks about. I hope this article illuminates the process because it’s all too common.
It’s hard to justify how and why the practice is acceptable but we highlighted two instances when people eat on the pot.
- Time
- Hunger
Occasionally these two reasons might explain why we’re pooping and eating at the same time but we advise to always do this at home, alone, and never in public. Above all, never tell anyone that you do this otherwise you should prepare for a life of solitude.
Happy pooping on the pot. Toilet Travels talks about all those dirty things people refuse to acknowledge. We spend so much time in the bathroom and on the toilet. Make your experience the best it can be!
